How To Calculate How Many Tiles You Need — Easy Calculator
Not sure how many tiles to buy? Simple formula to calculate exact tile quantity. Avoid buying too much or too little.

Buying too many tiles = wasted money. Too few = need to buy more and batch colors might differ. Here is the exact formula.
Basic Formula
Number of tiles = (Area size / Area of one tile) x 1.10
(1.10 = 10% extra for wastage and cuts)

Calculation Example
Living room 12ft x 15ft:
- Area = 180 sqft
- Tile 60x60cm (2x2ft) = 4 sqft per tile
- Number of tiles = (180 / 4) x 1.10 = 50 pieces
Bathroom 6ft x 8ft (floor only):
- Area = 48 sqft
- Tile 30x30cm (1x1ft) = 1 sqft per tile
- Number of tiles = (48 / 1) x 1.10 = 53 pieces
Wastage Allowance
| Installation Pattern | Wastage |
|---|---|
| Straight / grid | 10% |
| Diagonal | 15% |
| Herringbone | 15-20% |
| Random / mixed size | 10% |
Important Tips
- Buy extra 10-15% — for cuts, breakage and reserve
- Keep 3-5 pieces — for future replacements (if broken)
- Ensure same batch — colors can differ between batches
- Measure ALL areas — including under cabinets and behind doors
